Can You Put Hot Pans on a Glass Worktop Saver?
Share
A glass worktop saver can help protect a kitchen surface from warm cookware, but you should check the temperature rating of the individual product before placing a hot pan on it. Not all glass worktop savers have the same construction or heat specification.
Dad’s Cabin tempered-glass chopping boards and worktop savers are heat resistant up to 200°C.
Can you put a hot pan on a glass worktop saver?
You can place hot cookware on a glass worktop saver only when the product is designed and rated for that use, and the cookware is within the stated temperature limit. Check the manufacturer’s instructions rather than assuming every glass board is heat resistant.
Dad’s Cabin glass boards are rated as heat resistant up to 200°C and are designed to work as both chopping boards and worktop savers.
What does heat resistant up to 200°C mean?
It means the product is specified to tolerate temperatures up to that stated limit when used appropriately. It does not mean the glass is indestructible, fireproof or suitable for temperatures beyond 200°C.
Cookware can sometimes be hotter than expected, so if you are unsure of its temperature, allow it to cool or use an appropriate additional heat-protection product.
What is thermal shock?
Thermal shock happens when glass experiences a sudden and substantial temperature change. Rapid heating or cooling can create stress within glass even when it is designed to tolerate heat.
Avoid taking a very cold glass board and immediately exposing it to intense heat, or rapidly cooling a hot board. Sensible temperature changes help reduce unnecessary stress on the material.
Can a glass chopping board also be a worktop saver?
Yes, when it has been designed for both purposes. Dad’s Cabin tempered-glass boards combine a food-preparation surface with printed artwork, so they can remain on the kitchen worktop as decorative worktop savers when they are not being used for chopping.
Will a glass worktop saver protect my kitchen surface?
A worktop saver provides a physical barrier between an item and the worktop. Its suitability for heat depends on its own rating and the temperature of the item placed on it. You should also consider the care requirements of the worktop itself.
Dad’s Cabin boards have clear feet, which lift the glass slightly from the surface underneath.
Can I use a Dad’s Cabin board as a serving board?
Dad’s Cabin glass boards can be used as serving boards as well as chopping boards and worktop savers. Clean the surface appropriately before and after food use.
Are glass worktop savers dishwasher safe?
This varies by product. Dad’s Cabin glass chopping boards and worktop savers are dishwasher safe and have been tried and tested by us. Always check another manufacturer’s instructions before putting a printed glass product in a dishwasher.
What size are Dad’s Cabin worktop savers?
Our standard rectangular glass chopping boards and worktop savers are approximately 39 × 30cm. Bottle-shaped glass boards are approximately 35.5 × 18.7cm.
Choosing a heat-resistant worktop saver
Before buying, check the material, stated temperature limit, dimensions, cleaning instructions and whether the product has feet or another way of separating it from the worktop. A decorative design or personalisation can also make a practical worktop saver part of the kitchen décor.
